Activities and Resources Included in this packet:

Multipurpose story pictures-(snow, pipe, coal, hat, stick, scarf, snowman) for sequence & retell

Roll and Cover- Roll the Die. Describe the story items with attributes (color, shape, size, function, material, category, location, etc.)

Roll and Color- Black & White version of the roll and cover. Students roll the Die. Describe the story items with attributes (color, shape, size, function, material, category, location, etc.) then color the pictures.

7 Step Sequencing Chart- Students color and cut out the story pictures provided and glue them in the order they occurred. Students can retell the story using temporal words, such as: first, then, next…

3 Venn Diagrams-Students compare and contrast snow and a snowman, and a hat and a scarf. An open-ended Venn Diagram is included to compare other story items or to compare this story to another “Old Lady” story.

24 Comprehension Question Cards- What, when, Where, Why, phonemic awareness, and inference questions.

Frayer Model-(Snowman) Define, Label and Describe a snowman using the graphic organizer. “can, is, has, is NOT.”

12 (6 sets) Rhyming snow/know, stick/pick, coal/goal, etc.

TIER 2 Text-Based Vocabulary- gulp, goal, gobbled, glow, imagined, layers.

Color and Black/White 4-step sequencing pictures depicting “How To” Build a Snowman.

Blank frames to use with the snowman sequencing pictures. Student can color, cut and glue the sequence in the correct order.

Snowman writing paper in two sizes for students to write a “HOW TO BUILD A SNOWMAN” story.

10-Spot the Difference Snowmen Cards. Can you spot the differences between the snowmen on the playing cards? How many can you find on each playing card? A Sentence strip is included to support students in formulating complete sentences for comparing and contrasting.
