Are your students reading There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom (by Louis Sachar) for literature circles? Looking for a simple, no-prep way to assess whether or not students have actually done their reading? This set of three basic comprehension quizzes is for you!
Literature circles are wonderful, student-guided activities. They allow students to experience and interact with texts using meaningful, relevant discussion and questioning.
Unfortunately, holding students accountable for their reading (especially while multiple lit circle novels are being read simultaneously in a single classroom) can be challenging.
These quizzes are designed to briefly assess whether or not students have read their assigned pages/chapters. Questions are designed to provide easy, obvious choices for students who have actually read, while also providing incorrect answer choices that will quickly reveal students who have not completed their assigned reading.
These quizzes are designed to be given prior to lit circle discussions taking place. This way, students must rely on their own understanding of the text (or lack thereof) to answer all questions.
Please note: These quizzes only work when this assigned novel is at students' independent or instructional reading levels. If this novel is too difficult for students, they may not be able to correctly identify the "obvious" answers.
This set assumes that the novel There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom has been broken into three sections for students to read (chapters 1-18, chapters 19-32, and chapters 33-end). Quizzes one and two both feature five multiple choice questions each, and quiz three includes six multiple choice questions.
Please note: These questions do NOT require students to make connections, apply higher-level reading skills, etc. That's what literature circles are for! Instead, these questions are simply designed to tell which students have and have not read.
