Students will be focusing on the sense of touch. My goal for teaching this lesson is to improve on the Principles of Effective Teaching VI. Promotion of equity and appreciation of creativity. III. Effective Manangement- I will focus on how well I am able to manage materials to touch and the students during this lesson.
This lesson takes place in the middle of our six week science unit on the five senses. The students know the names of the senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. Students have also engaged in homework activities that included : What does that feel like? What is that texture? Etc.
Children will identify ways they use their sense of touch. They will continue to be introduced to the idea of being visually impaired or blind by being blindfolded while touching items. They will better understand how others senses are heightened when we don't lose the ability of one or more. They will understand and accept that some people may not have full use of all senses.
