This product contains 5 lessons for thermal energy and heat. Each lesson introduces a concept and outlines a lab to provide the students with experiential learning to support the understanding of the concept. Each lesson contains a concept poster, background knowledge for the teacher, materials list, lab procedures, ½ page lab report pages for Science INBs, and full-size lab report pages. The lab reports include 4 sections: question; hypothesis; experiment-observe-collect data; and conclusion
Lesson 1: Heat is a form of energy called thermal energy.
Lab 1: Using heat to inflate a balloon
Lesson 2: Thermal energy moves by conduction when one solid touches another.
Lab 2: Conducting heat between cups
Lesson 3: Thermal energy moves by convection through liquids and gasses.
Lab 3: Color coded convection cups
Lesson 4: Radiation is the thermal energy given off by heat producing objects.
Lab 4: Sun vs. Shade
Lesson 5: Other forms of energy such as light, chemical and kinetic can be changed into thermal energy.
Lab 5: Energy changing stations
