Product Description
This project requires students to connect their understanding of thermal energy to create an insulator used to keep a can of soda cold. The engineering design cycle will be used as students investigate, plan, create, improve, and evaluate their soda insulator.

This is part of a GROWING BUNDLE:
The plan is to have 12 STEAM & STEM products included by February 2018.

Data Collection Page:
After students have designed and built the soda insulator, they will test and record the results for trial 1. Trial 2 is designed for students to complete the test again after modifications have been made during the engineering design process.

Engineering Design Cycle Reflection:
Students will reflect about what they did as they worked through each part of the engineering design cycle.

Soda Insulator Report:
Students will complete a one-page report detailing their findings and conclusion.

Grading Rubric:
The grading rubric allows teachers to assess how students used their scientific knowledge of thermal energy and heat transfer to explain how their soda insulator was created and helps restrict heat.

Students will read a leveled passage about insulators and their various applications.

Informational Prompt: Writing About Insulators:
Students draw on knowledge gained from the STEAM project, passage, and research to explain how insulators work. They will draw two diagrams to support their writing.

4 Venn Diagrams:
Students will use understanding of how heat moves to compare and contrast two objects.

Concept Check: Conductor or Insulator?
Students will identify if seven objects are conductors or insulators, and write an explanation defending their idea.
