Page 6-8 – “In the Mud!” – a synonym game – print, laminate, and cut out. Shuffle the cards. Students take turns drawing a card and giving a synonym for the picture. If they are correct, they hold on to the card. If they get an “In the Mud!” card, they lose one of their cards. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
Page 9-12 – Smash Mats or Magnetic Chip activity – 4 different pages are included. Each student gets one page and they take turns naming a synonym for one of the pictures on their page. They can then cover the picture with playdough or a magnetic chip and play moves to the next player.
Page 13-16 – Thesaurus Rex Concentration – this activity is for readers or you can tell the students the word. The first half of each pair is placed faced down on one side of the table – the second half of each pair is placed down on the other side of the table. Students take turns drawing a card from each side of the table, trying to match synonyms. If they are a match, the student keeps the cards. If they are not a match, the cards go back on the correct sides of the table, face down and play moves to the next player. The player with the most pairs at the end of the game is the winner.
