SLIDER WORDS | Sassoon Font
97 pages. Includes template for card holder!

Be a word detective! Have fun blending words (reading) and separating the sounds in words (writing) with 276 word cards that are color coded! Vowels, consonants, digraphs and double letters are indicated by specific colors..

• A fantastic word work resource for reading teachers, Reading Specialists, Title 1 Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Classroom Teachers and Parents.

Directions for the activity:
• Take a piece of cover-stock… cut to about 10” tall
• Hold it so that it sits tall in front of you.
• Fold the bottom one third up and the top one third down.
• Glue the top and bottom flaps together.
• Cut a half circle shape from each end.
• Cut the slider cards so that they are 3” high x paper width.
• Place about 10 Slider Cards into the holder right side up as it faces you.
• Put a green marker dot on the left side facing you ... beginning of the word.
• Place a red marker dot on the right side facing you … end of the word.
• Turn the holder towards the children and start to pull the word from the slider at the green dot. Use the colors to help determine how many letters you need to pull… e.g. if the letter is red or black just slide one letter; if the letter is purple or blue there will be another letter needed to make the sound.
• After the word is decoded, push it into the sleeve and start another word,

Black letters- consonants
Red letters- short vowel sounds
Purple letters – digraphs
Green letters – split digraph e.g. /i_e/, /a_e/
Blue letters – double letters, /ck/.

NOTE: All sound cards have the sound that is being studied in the right hand corner as a teacher reference.

* Use the sound cards to review previously taught sounds!
