This is a document that can be edited. I converted it from Pages to Word so the formating will need to be tweaked. I also have the test on Google Docs. You can run a Flubaroo script and have it auto-corrected. Just email me for the Docs copy.
The test is written to get students to compare literary elements found in the novel The Thief and the Beanstalk by P.W. Catanese. It is an excellent book with lots on literary devices. The same theme and literary devices can also be found in Star Wars: A New Hope. I created this test as preparation for our state-wide reading test. I also used it as the final Unit assessment for student understanding of what we were learning from the novel. The students watched Star Wars in class and took notes. The younger your students are the more you may have to guide them to find some of the elements in the movies as they are watching. For example, I brought up Princess Leia's goofy hair and costumes and how they are examples of what type of characterization.
It is not a very long test as I find my ESL and 504 students struggle with long tests. I did give another set of questions on another day over just the novel.
I wrote this in Google Docs then ran a Flubaroo script to auto-correct after the students took the exam on iPads.
