Rules with worksheet for Geometric Ray Diagrams. Includes both convex and concave lenses.

Students are directed with the rules for drawing ray diagrams, including examples, for finding the image produced by thin lenses.

On the practice worksheet, students practice drawing their own ray diagrams and measuring using significant digits, focal length, object and image distances and heights. They then describe the direction of the image and as a real or virtual image. The final step is to calculate the magnification.

This is a very good worksheet to help students visualise the way lenses refract light. I use this worksheet before any laboratory exercise on lenses and the introduction of the Thin Lens Equation.
