These activities are ready to copy and go without need for your sub to read lengthy directions. Your sub will need a copy machine and overhead (smartboard or activeboard) and your kids will need pencil, crayons, and scissors.
Included in this 48 page download: Morning and afternoon large group “messages” for students to complete and for the sub teacher to use as “get acquainted” and “end of day wrap up” meetings. Each message should take from 30 to 45 minutes of class time.
Reader Response papers for students to write after they have read with an adult or independently for 30 (or more) minutes. Students will record what they learned about plot, characters, setting, and new words, whether they read a portion of a book or the whole thing. These reader response papers provide the opportunity for small group or large group sharing upon completion.
All activities focus on Climbing:
In math, they will write number words as they put together a counting book of things to climb; add climbing monkeys and koalas; cut out and subtract monkeys that climb down the tree; color a picture of Jack and the Beanstalk by matching number and color words.
In writing they will use “climbing up,” “climbing into,” “climbing over,” and “climbing on” in sentences; they will practice vocabulary words for things we climb; make an ABC book of things we climb; and cut out and form correct sentences about climbing.
They will read and respond to comprehension questions about the spider monkey and kitten: two of our “favorite climbers!”
Included in the plans is an activities grid that briefly explains each activity, possible variations of the activity, materials needed, and Common Core Standards Applied. Also included is the Subplanners Super Skill Builders Page for review of basic number and literacy skills.
