“Think Boards” could be a wonderful addition to your classroom during reading instruction.

Purpose: The purpose of a “think board” is to get students thinking about the text they are reading. Active readers usually make stronger readers because they are engaged with the text instead of just reading it. They can be used to ensure comprehension and allow students to connect to the text.

Suggestions for use: It is suggested that the boards be printed on card stock paper and laminated to be used again and again. Teachers can assign certain boxes to students for differentiation based on independent levels or the board can be completed in entirety. Students can write responses on a separate sheet of paper or on sticky notes. The boards can be used for fiction or nonfiction texts.
