Think Like A Disciplinarian (TLAD) is a good differentiation tool for any type of reading. Think Like A Geographer is a short description who a Geographer is and what they do. This gives the students an anchor to refer to while completing the activity. I use TLAD during our argumentation units with 1 of the 3 information articles we use for evidence. TLAD gets the students to see the information in the article from a different perspective and gives the reading a different level of purpose. I typically do 4 disciplines at a time so the group numbers stay down. They first read through and mark the text as their discipline and fill in a organizer looking for various things such as language or ethics as their discipline. The students get together with the same discipline and discuss the article from that point of view, then get together in different disciplines, sharing information about the article again from their different points of view filling in their organizers as they share. For organizational purposes, I printed each student poster on a different color paper and laminated them for longevity. Color coding the discipline "posters" helps me quickly see that the students are in the correct place at the correct time during same discipline and different discipline group.
