This activity is a routine that stimulates students prior knowledge, helps to generate their thinking, verbalise ideas and prepares them for deeper investigation. This activity has been organized around Equivalent Fractions.
Included is a page explaining the routine and why it is helpful, images to start the conversation/discussion, and questions to develop deeper thinking and connections to everyday life.
This activity also encourages setting up a discussion wall with the students responses, where they can go back and revise their thinking or gain new insight to what others are thinking.
All you have to do is download and print, instructions included. You'll also need sticky notes (in 3 different colors) for each student.

All Of My Resources Are Common Core Aligned (But Also Work Great For Those Using Other Standards):
I’m not new to teaching and I’m not new to making resources – but I am new to Teachers Pay Teachers and I want to get some positive feedback on my resources as quickly as possible and I’m prepared to pay for it - for a limited time!
It’s simple – buy one of my products and then:
If you like it, rate it, then send me an email (make sure your name corresponds with the name that you bought the product with, so I can check at my end). In the email you send me, just send me the page link (url) to one of my other products that are priced at or below the product that you purchased and I’ll email you that product for free. You can even get multiple products for free, as long as they add up to the same or less than the product that you purchased!
If you don’t like the product you buy – then just send me an email, let me know why you didn’t like it (so I can make it better) and as per above, send me a link to one of my other products priced at or below the one you bought and I’ll email you that product for free.
My email: email@example.com
Also be sure to Follow me, as I’ll have some great future specials for my followers as I launch my new products.
You can feel confident that you are comprehensively teaching your students every skill in the standard with my resources, as all have been designed from the ground up to align to the CCSS. Whilst my resources have specifically been designed for 4th Grade, most will also be most applicable to higher ability students in grade 3 and lower ability students in grade 5.
Your Feedback Is Highly Valued and Much Appreciated.
I hope your students enjoy this resource and that it gives you a bit of time back in your busy life.
Please take the time to provide some feedback ☺
