This activity takes basic addition fact practice to the next level with the opprotunity to have fun and color. Students practice analyzing basic addition fact problems and solutions, to develop critical thinking skills. These skills can later help them to recognize errors in their own work.
Students determine if the sum is correct or incorrect. If it is correct, they color the box blue. If it is incorrect, they color the box red and write in the correct answer. At the end, students count and record how many answers were correct, and how many answers were incorrect.
The activity can be used during centers time, as a warm-up, formative assessment, or a fun remedial practice for struggling students.
An answer key is provided, and the coloring of the boxes makes it easy to grade or look over to give students quick feedback.
