Often times I feel my students are just reading the words on the page without realizing that there is a story being told or information being given. I made these cards and trifold to remind students that they need to stop and reflect as they read. You can use them with the whole class during independent or buddy reading by holding up the cards. Students reading while the “read to yourself” and “read with a buddy” cards are displayed. When you want students to stop and think, switch cards. Independent readers can write down thoughts or write down questions they have. Buddy readers can stop and talk about what they’ve read. Thinking about reading will become a habit for readers!
Included you will find three “Thinking about reading” hold up cards for individual reading, two “Thinking about reading” hold up cards for buddy reading, a trifold for small groups, and a “Thinking about reading” sheet for students to take notes.
