This activity created by Dione is used in conjuction with the study of the Metric System. For this activity, the students choose four everyday items to draw in the provided graphic organizer. Then, the students will measure the items. For example a student may choose the Science Table. The student will draw the picture of the Science table and label measurements for the table on the picture for length and height using the correct measurements. The purpose of this activity is for the students to understand the correct measurements to use. For example, a fingernail is drawn in one of the boxes. Kilometer is incorrect due to kilometer being too large of a measurement and is used for distance and not length. The best unit of measurement would most likely be the millimeter or centimeter depending on the length of someones nails. This activity reinforces this concept while along the students to apply it to real world situations.
