This set includes a 2-page graphic organizer as well as a teaching guide for how to really dig deep into thinking like the author, not just "PIE". The organizer is set up into three sections:
1.) Background knowledge: What do I know about the author/speaker/creator? What do I know about this time period in history?
2.) What is it that the Author is Doing?: What do they say? How do they say it?
3.) Why is the Author Doing It?: How does the author feel about this issue? Why does the author feel this way?
With the new Common Core Standards, students are required to dig deeper than just "why do writers write?". They are required to relate to the author and infer what an author is saying. This organizer will help your students with this task no matter what text you decide to use!
