Third Grade Literacy Centers for October and November
This fall and pumpkin themed literacy activity set contains activities that focus on third grade literacy standards. These activities can be used as literacy centers or for small group instruction, or independent practice. The activities in this set include:
Falling for Irregular Verbs ~ Students sort word cards into the correct categories (regular verbs, irregular verbs). Students record their sort on an answer sheet.
A Patch of Adjectives and Adverbs ~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct adjective or adverb to complete the sentence. Students write the correct word on a recording sheet.
Pumpkin Possessives ~ Students will read task cards and choose the correct possessive noun. Students will write their answer on a recording sheet.
Picking out the Traits (Character Traits)~ Students will read short passages on task cards and choose the character trait that describes the main character in the passage. Students record their answer on the recording sheet.
Picking out the Details ~ Students can read two different nonfiction passages. With each passage, students will sort the supporting details to match the main topic. Students will record the details and main topic on their recording sheet.
Fables ~ Students will read four different fables and determine the moral of each fable. Students will record their answer on their answer sheet.
Writing Prompts ~ 6 writing prompts included with writing paper (2 opinion, 2 expository, and 2 narratives).
Graphic Organizers ~ 2 graphic organizers that can be used with independent reading books or books read aloud. A page with QR code listening centers to use with the graphic organizers is included as well.
The standards covered in this set include:
Form and use regular and irregular plural nouns.
Form and use regular and irregular verbs.
Form and use comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs, and choose between them depending on what is to be modified.
Form and use possessives.
Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.
Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events
Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
Determine the main idea of a text; recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea.
