This assessment set is designed to gather baseline data prior to starting each unit. It is designed to help group students based on their specific needs within each unit of study. It also serves as a post test to show student growth through each unit.
Each test is structured with 16 questions:
- 4 “Building Block” questions - These questions are based on second grade standards that provide the foundation needed to be successful with third grade standards in the unit.
- 8 “Target” questions - These questions align to the common core standards and highlight the key strands. The goal is for all students to master these questions by the end of your instructional unit.
- 4 “The Sky is the Limit” questions - These questions align to fourth grade standards. They allow all students to show growth! Many students will not be able to answer these questions, and that’s perfectly normal!
Each unit includes a data sheet where students can see their growth from the beginning of the unit to the end of the unit.
Each unit includes a list of the foundational or “building block” skills needed to start the unit, along with the key third grade standards covered in the unit and aligned fourth grade standards where students can accelerate. This makes planning for all levels a breeze!
