Description

For a high interest third grade math center activity that will build number sense for the numbers one to 100, try this set! Your students will practice vocabulary, logic, problem solving, and reading comprehension as they solve each multi-step riddle and choose from four possible answers.

There are no clues using coins in this set.

Supply your students with small clothespins or binder clips to mark their answers. You could also laminate the cards and have your students indicate their answers with an erasable marker.

The task cards are coded by letter so that your students can check their work using the included answer key. You can also make the cards self-correcting by marking the correct answer with a small dot on the back of each card.

Each of the cards has multiple clues for a number from one to 100. In order to be successful with the riddle cards, your students should be familiar with ...

  • The terminology of multiplication and division (product, quotient, factor, multiple) (3.OA)
  • Addition and subtraction through 1000 (3.NBT.2)
  • Area and perimeter (3.MD.5, 3.MD.7, 3.MD.8)
  • Attributes of 2D and 3D shapes (3.G.1).

If you’re already using 120 Riddle Cards for the Hundred Chart for Third Grade, you’ll find that this set is a great companion resource. Use the riddle cards to introduce the problem solving process to your whole class, and then put this set of cards in your math centers for independent use. Since many of the riddles are the same or very similar in both sets, your students will have the support of familiarity, but since there are 100 cards and some clues have been changed, your students will still be challenged!
