Need new ideas for your third grade music lessons? Want detailed ideas, questions, and strategies to try with your students? This comprehensive bundle will eventually include 28 music lessons, for the first half of the year. This is a growing bundle, so it comes initially with 4 lessons; two are added every week. Just go to "my purchases" every week to download the additions.

All lessons include objectives, materials, all National Core arts standards covered, skills covered, relationship to previous and future lessons, "I can" statements, comfortable starting pitch, time allotted for each activity, procedures, assessments, and transitions. A spot on each lesson is included for an evaluation of the lesson, so you can list any notes about the lesson or about what each class covered. I'm also including essential questions and rubrics as appropriate.

The timeline for additions is as follows:
Lessons 1-4: Come initially with set
Lessons 5-6: Added on August 28
Lessons 7-8: Added September 3
Lessons 9-10: Added September 11
Lessons 11-12: Added September 18
Lessons 13-14: Added September 25
Lessons 15-16: Added October 2
Lessons 17-18: Added October 9
Lessons 19-20: Added October 16
Lessons 21-22: Added on or before October 23
Lessons 23-24: Added on or before October 30
Lessons 25-26: Added on or before November 6
Lessons 27-28: Added on or before November 13

This set is meant to assist you in lesson planning your third grade lessons. Each student population, each school, and each teacher is different, so I made these lesson plans editable (as Word files) so you could adapt as needed. Simply type into the already existing lesson, or cut and paste into your own template. These lessons are written for 35 minutes, so if you have less, you could delete activities, and if you have more, you could add using some of the suggestions in the “suggestions for addition” file (which will grow as the set grows). Please feel free to add activities of your own! This should be a living, breathing set that changes from year to year, adapting to your students, your needs, and your school’s needs.

I am also uploading new songs and chants to the file as they occur throughout the lessons; they will be alphabetically listed in the songs file. Materials will also be added. Please note that while many lesson materials are included in this set, some of the materials are listed as links to products in my store, the stores of others, or on other sites online (such as West Music.)

Please note that the first lesson of this series is very similar to the third grade lesson in Fabulous First Day, as this is the first lesson of the third grade year. The present/practice 4-beat meter lesson will be similar to one you may already own, which is in Songs and Activities to Teach 4-beat meter. The three other lessons which are similar to ones you may already own are the presentation lesson for low la, which is also found in Songs and Activities to Teach Low la, the presentation lesson for ti-tika, which is also found in Songs and Activities to Teach Ti-Tika, and the Present Do Pentatonic lesson in my Second Grade Music Lessons {Second Semester}, which can be used to present or practice do pentatonic scale.

The set also includes:
*A checklist for National Core Arts Standards (this is the same design in my Music Teacher Planner {Cardboard and Chevron}, but only includes third grade)
*Lesson plan template (editable Word file)
*PDF's of all of the lessons
*Editable outline of lessons in Excel:
This file is much like a simplified year plan.
*Tips for writing lessons in Word (includes info about how to check boxes on the lesson plan template)

This set could also be adapted for fourth grade, if your fourth graders are practicing these concepts. For these lessons, it is assumed that students know the following concepts: beat, rhythm, ta and ti-ti, quarter rest, tika-tika, half note, sol-mi, la, do, re, 2-beat meter, and 4-beat meter. I am including suggestions for how to prepare 4-beat meter, though, if your 2nd graders did not learn that time signature. During the course of this particular set, students will learn ti-tika (sometimes called ti-tiri, which is one eighth/ two sixteenths) and low la. Students will also practice the do pentatonic scale, and will work on several skills, such as listening, inner hearing, improvisation, and more!

Please note that there are some SMART notebook files included in the set, but I've included info about opening them at, if you don't have the software, and/or have included alternate directions if you can't project.
