These reading response sheets are designed to:
-Be used in literature groups, guided reading groups, or whole group instruction.
-Be used with any book.
-Support the teacher to instruct students in understanding the reading standard.
-Integrate speaking, listening and writing standards.
For some of the standards, there is a prerequisite sheet to support students in better understanding the concept of the standard.
-The response sheets all have a partner talk component to integrate the speaking and listening standards with reading and writing.
-The response sheets all have a graphic organizer component and a paragraph writing component (we call this the “Bridge”), so that students can use their thinking from the graphic organizer or template to then transfer to writing. There is a self-editing check-list for each sheet that relates to the conventions standards for third grade.

All of the Third Grade Reading Literature standards –RL.3.1, RL 3.2, RL. 3.3, RL.3. 5, RL.3.6, RL 3.7-so all except RL.3.4 and 3.9, 3.10
All of the Third Grade Reading Informational Text standards- RL.3.1, RL 3.2, RL. 3.3, RL.3. 5, RL.3.6, RL 3.7-so all except RL.3.4 and 3.9, 3.10
Writing standards addressed are:
W 3.9 Draw evidence from literary and informational texts to support analysis, reflection and research.
W. 3.10 Write routinely over shorter time frames (a sitting in one day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes and audiences.
