This pack focuses on activities that fit with Ohio’s New Learning Standards for Third Grade Science.
- Earth’s nonliving resources have specific properties.
- Earth’s resources can be used for energy.
- Some of Earth’s resources are limited.
- Offspring resemble their parents and each other.
- Individuals of the same kind differ in their traits and sometimes the differences give individuals an advantage in surviving and reproducing.
- Plants and animals have life cycles that are part of their adaptations for survival in their natural environment.
1. All objects and substances in the natural world are composed of matter.
2. Matter exists in different states, each of which has different properties.
3. Heat, electrical energy, light, sound, and magnetic energy are forms of energy.
This large pack includes my smaller science packs bundled together!
This recycling pack contains an activity, which focuses on the importance of recycling, and an activity that focuses on the process of recycling. There is a page to see what students already know about recycling and what can be recycled. Then students will do research on one recyclable item and go through the process of how it gets recycled. This is a great way to have students learn about the process of recycling!
This pack focuses on three types of soil: sand loam, and clay. This pack contains:
*List of Books about Soil
*Investigation sheets for recording the properties of soil
*Reading Passage about how soil is formed with questions
*Reading Passage about the different layers of soil with questions
*Two types of exit tickets
This pack focuses on identifying the properties of rocks and minerals. It is ideal to have rocks and minerals for your students to investigate and use with this pack. If you do not have actual rocks and minerals there are pictures included but it would be harder to identify properties just by looking at a picture.
This pack includes:
*Reading Passage about the properties of rocks and minerals with questions
*Reading passage with the three types of rocks (metamorphic, igneous, and sedimentary) with questions
*A book list
*Cards with 9 types of minerals and their names
*Cards with 14 types of rocks and their names
*Venn Diagram to compare rocks and minerals
*Introduction slides for each property (a smart notebook file and PowerPoint are included)
*The introduction slides as PDFs that can be hung up in the classroom as posters.
This pack focuses on three standards that match Ohio's New Learning Standards for third grade science.
This pack includes centers that match the standards above. The six living things included are chickens, frogs, plants, pumpkins, ladybugs, and butterflies.
*The first center activity students will read a passage about each type of plant or animals life cycle. They will answer the questions and put the life cycle in order. Students will write down what they observe about the life cycle.
*The second activity students will read a passage about different animals or plants of the same species and write their traits. They will then compare the offspring to their parents.
*The third activity is a memory game where students can match the life cycle term to its picture.
*The fourth activity students will observe an animal on a web cam and write their observations of that animal each day.
This pack focuses on the different types of energy that can create electricity. The types included in this pack are wind power, hydropower, solar power, geothermal, biomass, oil, coal, and natural gas. The activities included are:
*9 reading passages with questions
*State energy research report
*Types of energy memory
*Types of energy task cards with a recording sheet and answer sheet
This pack includes:
*4 close read passages for matter (matter, gas, solid, and liquids) with 2 pages of questions per passage
*Close Read Symbols
*Centers for exploring the properties of liquids, solids, and gases
*Activity: Exploring the three states of matters with balloons
*Activity: Observing Alka-Seltzer make a gas
*Activity: Which dissolves faster sugar or salt? Watching solids change
*Activity: Write the Room Matter
*Activity: Matter Sort
*Activity: sorting Volume vs. Weight
This pack focuses on different forms of energy and how they create change.
*Energy reading passage, questions, and KWL chart
*Heat Energy KWL chart, a reading passage, questions, and 4 activities
*Electrical Energy KWL chart, a reading passage, questions, and 2 activities
*Light Energy KWL chart, a reading passage, questions, and 3 activities
*Sound Energy KWL chart, a reading passage, questions, and 4 activities
*Magnetic Energy KWL chart, a reading passage, questions, and 4 activities
This pack also includes Third Grade Science and Social Studies I Can Statements and Third Grade Science Assessments
This pack is great for science activities for the entire school year! Answer keys are included for the center games and comprehension questions.
