• Explanation of types of resources.
• Needs and wants.
• Using the land and what it offers.
• Trade and specialization.
• How economic choices and opportunity cost works.

Also included are 2 SMARTboard activities that are also available in PDF form for individual work/assignment.
• Activity 1 - Students will be able to identify opportunity costs by making economic choices.
• Activity 2 – Students will be able to move and identify the different types of resources.

European Explorers
This lesson focuses on exploration to the New World. The lesson includes:
• Terminology (explorer, European).
• Introduction to exploration including Marco Polo visiting Asia..
• Introduction to Columbus, De Leon, Cartier, and Newport
• Effects on the American Indians

Also included is 1 SMARTboard activity that is also available in PDF form for individual work/assignment.
• Students will be able to identify the explorers Columbus, De Leon, Cartier, and Newport. Students will be able to identify their country of origin and their major accomplishment(s).

Maps and Globes
This lesson focuses Maps and Globes. The lesson includes:
• Terminology (hemisphere, Equator, Prime Meridian, region, and grid).
• Explanation of hemispheres and, Equator, and Prime Meridian.
• Review of the 7 continents and 5 oceans.
• Basic map explanation and introduction to reading grids.
• Graphical representation of continent sizes.

Also included are 2 SMARTboard activities that are also available in PDF form for individual work/assignment.
• Students will be able to identify the location of the 7 continents, 5 oceans, Prime Meridian, and Equator.
• Map and globe terminology/picture grouping activity

Ancient Civilizations
This lesson focuses on the great empires of Greece, Rome, and Mali. The lesson includes:
• Terminology (civilization, contribution, direct democracy, arch, representative democracy, caravan, architecture, characteristics, columns, architects, and Mansa, Musa).
• Introduction to the contributions from the 3 empires.
• Location of Greece and architecture (Parthenon).
• How Greece utilized its terrain.
• Roman Empire introduction.
• Arches and aqueducts.
• Roman government and contributions.
• How the Roman Empire fell.
• Introduction to Mali and how it was so wealthy.
• Understanding Mali, Mansa Musa’s contributions, and what griots are.
• Characteristics of the 3 lands.

• Students will be able to identify 5 items that will be matched with Greece, 5 with Rome, and 5 with Mali.

American Heroes
This lesson focuses seven Americans with notable contributions to the United States. The lesson includes:
• Terminology (segregation, boycott, desegregation, civil disobedience, migrant, and union).
• Information regarding George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Cesar Chavez.

Also included is one SMARTboard activity that is also available in PDF form for individual work/assignment.
• Students will identify the seven American heroes and their accomplishments through a matching activity.


U.S. Government
U.S. Government – A Third Grade SMARTboard Introduction is a 3rd grade level SmartBoard instructional presentation.
This lesson focuses on basic government components. The lesson includes:
• Terminology (communities, rules, laws, equality, and government).
• Explanation of rules and laws.
• Levels of government (National, State, and Local) with some responsibilities.
• Explanation of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and equality under the law.

Also included are 2 SMARTboard activities that are also available in PDF form for individual work/assignment.
• Activity 1 - Students will be able to identify the three levels of government, title of person in charge, name of person in charge (for individual state and city/town), and some jobs for that level of government.
• Activity 2 – Students will be able to match “life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and equality under the law” with explanations of each.
