On the sixth week of our reading unit, our third grade students complete a research project. This particular one was so fun and interesting to them! The students had to research 4 different landmarks (predetermined and research site chosen by teachers) and then choose which one they thought was the most important to our country. They filled out a research packet to find facts and information, and then incorporated their research into their final paper on this sheet. They had to write a persuasive essay on why the United States Government should keep the landmark they chose. Great integration for social studies and a wonderful switch from the normal reading routine! It also pairs with the Reading Writing Workshop book and the Literature Anthology Wonders book that students can use to supplement their research!
