OBJECTIVE:
To understand the challenges facing economically developing countries.

TIME:
1-2 class periods

This lesson includes two fun contests.

Students begin by reading a section entitled Third World Nations. They are instructed to underline or highlight the most important words, names, terms, and ideas. When finished, a question sheet for Contest 1 is given to each class member. In Contest 1, students compete to answer as many questions as possible by filling in missing words, names, and terms in statements pertaining to what they read about third world nations. Each correct answer is worth either 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 points. A perfect score is 100.

The lesson continues in the same way with another reading section entitled Developing Countries, which is followed by Contest 2.
