This lesson is common core aligned to analyze text in order to identify character traits. Students will learn that an
author develops a characters traits based on what the character says or does. Activities include:
Analyzing the Cat in the Story Cat and the Hat by looking for evidence in the text to determine his character traits. E
Seussifying themselves by turning themselves into the cat and writing examples of their actions, and words, that describe their own character traits.
Reading various stories and identifying traits using the graphic organizers and word bank included. Students will identify the character, the trait, and evidence from the story. Graphic organizers provided to be used with any story the kids choose.
Choosing a favorite character to analyze and writing a descriptive paragraph about that characters personality.
