This product is a PowerPoint with an important historical event for each calendar day of the year. Each slide has a description of the event, a picture, and an open ended question for the student to answer. These make for perfect bell ringers because students find them interesting, it allows for great discussion (if you want that), and gets students working right away when they enter your classroom. Since the questions are mostly opinion your students won't need a lot of prior knowledge to answer them. I also like these bell ringers because once students know the routine they come in and start reading and answering while I have time to take attendance and work with students who have been absent.
These bell ringers have been great because they expose my students to events that we just don’t get to cover in class. The events cover world history, American history, politics, scientific discoveries, and much more. Grading these bell ringers is a breeze. I simply have my students record an answer in a notebook and then turn them in every couple of weeks. There is no need to check factual answers, only that they have thought about the question and put down an answer. Some teachers I have shared this with give students weekly sheets and give their students a grade that way.
This PowerPoint took me close to 40 hours to develop, but it has been well worth it. The best part is, you can use it year after year! Enjoy!
*Note- The PowerPoint starts on August 15th and has a slide for every day through May 31st. There are no slides for over Christmas Break (Dec23rd- Jan3rd)
