  • December 16, 1773 - The “Boston Tea Party” happened
  • April 19, 1775 - The Revolutionary War officially began
  • July 4, 1776 - The Declaration of Independence was published
  • September 3, 1783 - The Treaty of Paris was signed by the British and the United
    States, which officially ended the Revolutionary War
  • September 17, 1787 - The Constitution of the United States was signed
  • April 30, 1803 - The Louisiana Purchase Treaty was signed
  • September 25, 1804 - Louis & Clark began their expedition of the Louisiana
    Territory
  • February 23, 1836 - The Battle of the Alamo began
  • April 12, 1861 - The American Civil War began
  • January 1, 1863 - Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation
  • April 14, 1865 - Abraham Lincoln was assassinated
  • April 15, 1912 - The Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean
  • July 28, 1914 - World War I began
  • August 15, 1914 - The Panama Canal opens for business
  • October 29, 1929 - The US stock market crashed to an all-time low; known as Black Tuesday
  • September 1, 1939 - World War II officially began
  • December 7, 1941 - Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor
  • August 6, 1945 - An American B-29 bomber plane dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima
  • June 6, 1944 - Allied forces invade Normandy; known as D-Day
  • June 25, 1950 - The Korean War officially starts as North Korea invades South Korea
  • October 4, 1957 - The Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I, the world’s
    first artificial satellite
  • August 26, 1963 - Over 200,000 people met in Washington DC for the March on Washington for civil rights
  • November 22, 1963 - John F. Kennedy was assassinated
  • July 20, 1969 - Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from Apollo 11 landed on the moon
  • September 11, 2001 - Terrorists attacked the United States, killing 3,000 people
