Use the following pages to respond to Jon Klassen’s
THIS IS NOT MY HAT. There are three different responses to choose from, ranging in length and level of difficulty. Students may write from the perspective of Little Fish, deciding where they would hide from Big Fish and why. Additionally, students may persuade Big Fish to let Little Fish keep his hat. There are also several completed samples included.
There is also a sequence activity to teach or assess sequencing of Jon Klassen’s THIS IS NOT MY HAT. Have students cut out the boxes using the dotted lines as a guide. Then students glue each event in order from first to last. There is also an answer key included.
Additionally, there are two foldables to explore the characters in
THIS IS NOT MY HAT. One foldable focuses on the actions of the characters and the other works on describing the characters.
