While grade level curriculum for social studies is specific to a certain time period for a reason, it is important for students to develop background knowledge about a variety of historical events. This weekly research activity allows for just that.
It is designed to be a simple, yet effective means of getting students into history in a way that will not overwhelm your classroom.
All you need to do is print the poster of your choice (there is blank for bright paper or a variety of patriotic patterns), copy the work page, introduce the activity to the students, and set the routine into your schedule.
Once students get used to it, it will take only 10-15 minutes for each student to complete weekly.
I included a teacher guide with websites you can use for your historical events and directions on how I use it in my room.
I like to add a tab to the back of my social studies notebooks and have the students store their work behind it. Best part? Just count out the weeks you'll implement it and you have a pre-determined number of pages you'll need for it.
BONUS FREEBIE INCLUDED! I teach 5th grade and included my social studies interactive notebooks unit tabs for you! :)
