Includes student viewing guide for episode 1 of the hit NBC television series "This is Us".
This viewing guide is used as a way to introduce the characters and their story to students. Students will gain familiarities with some of the family challenges that will be presented as case studies for future lessons.

How I use "This is Us":
I have begun to play one episode at a time throughout the semester in my Family Studies class. The viewing guides I create are designed to get students to think critically about the situations that the characters are facing. Later, I use the characters to design case study questions on unit tests so that students can show what they know using the characters and situations presented on the show. The viewing guides are used to help students understand the complexity of human relationships and common struggles that are faced by individuals and families everywhere.
Note: At times there is some strong language and adult situations on the show. However, I have found that all of these situations are applicable to real situations faced by average people and that they are important to discuss with students.
