My students struggle with reading to learn. I have realized that they need extra help and scaffolds to help them comprehend historical texts. So I have done is write a one-page informational text on each of the important events in the Jefferson Presidency and included line-by-line comprehension questions. The students love to do these activities because they are easy. I love them because I can hold them accountable for the reading and we can move on to discussions about the material.
Also included are differentiated tasks to help students interact with the reading: There are the guiding questions (As mentioned above), a poster activity for those who are visual learners and ESL students, and an essay for advanced students.
The topics covered in this resource are:
(1) The Election of 1800
(2) Overview of Jefferson Presidency
(3) Louisiana Purchase
(4) Marbury v. Madison
(5) The Embargo Act
