I used this activity for my 8th grade history class as part of our unit on Federalism and the Constitution. I thought it was a good time to take a moment and learn more about the character of Thomas Jefferson. Basically, the students receive the four page document entitled Web Quest. They must follow the directions on the sheet and learn about Jefferson by looking through an interactive website centered around Monticello. My students enjoy these type of plug and play activities that allow them to work at their own speed. I think the activity would be great for 8th - 10th graders. Most responses are based on reading and listening pieces that are predetermined via reading articles and listening to video segments, but some require critical thinking. For example, the last question ask students to consider whether Jefferson was a hyprocite based on two pieces of evidence that they read today. I scheduled this activity for 60 minutes, but my level of students needed additional time. You would need to decide on the time frame needed based on your individual class needs.
