Inspired by the work of Lucy Caulkins and the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project - Quick writes are a wonderful way to scaffold the process into deeper thinking about a story. I wanted to organize these into a sort of "teacher menu" to quickly and easily pull prompts to fit stories on the fly, but the "Beginning, Middle, End" is just a suggestion. This is not a student handout, but a reference tool for you to use after a guided reading, shared reading, or read-aloud story. Use one, or two, or three of the prompts to move the writing along, giving one prompt at a time. I even find myself tweaking them to better fit some stories. My struggling students are always amazed at how much they write when we use this process, and how their thinking grows. See the preview file for a sample of how it's used.
