Before writers produce a piece of text, they make a plan for how to organize it. The video segment is about how artists and writers create sketches, outlines, and webs to create a plan for their work. The Narrator walks the viewer through Marsden Hartley’s sketches leading up to a finished piece. Referring back to Wang Fen’s “On the Wall: Haiku 6” photograph, the Narrator discusses two ways to approach a written piece about the image. Students then apply one of these methods to create a plan for their expository essay.
