Many video links are provided throughout this unit, including lesson plans.
This unit begins with students comparing and contrasting urban and rural communities. It is important students have this foundation before they delve into the branches of government.
Next, students will watch high-interest videos via the links provided, complete a card sort, followed up by a handout that has them categorizing structures and functions of government as local, state, or national and identify the branch as legislative, executive, or judicial.
The third lesson provided teaches students about the Bill of Rights, focusing on the First Amendment. After learning about these freedoms, students will create a comic strip using the handout provided.
Finally, students will discover the Armed Forces through video links and complete a visual handout to help them remember the Armed Forces.
