The following three consonant blends are included in this activity: spr-, str-, scr-, and spl-. Use this activity in conjunction with instruction on the use of these blends. First have students read these words using learned phonetic strategies. They may do this individually or with a partner. Then have them cut and paste them into the correct blend group. Next have them use a dictionary to locate words and definitions. Finally have them develop a sentence of their own with the word. This can be adapted to be used in a vocabulary notebook for students to reference in their reading or writing.
