As a First Grade teacher my students always wrote two essays. One essay was a fictional story. The other was a non-fictional story. Often times other professionals would ask me how my students were so successful with their writing. My answer was always the same. My class wrote often in journals on an everyday basis and every paragraph was based on brainstorming, and structure. These three paragraph stories for beginning writers were created when I worked as a special education teacher. I actually blew the pages up on the copy machine to the largest font. Students who struggled were able to draw pictures and become very creative with their writing. My students began writing this way and then were able to go on their own and create their own books. This set is a great way to get the creative juices flowing as an alternative to journaling.
