The first portion of this book combines two other projects, the original booklet that was written as an introduction to the history of the small group of “Non-conformists” who have come to be known in history as the Pilgrims, and a new book that came out of the pictorial work for that one. Neither were ever meant to be a full history, but rather to give much of the background to their trip to the New World that is often not known, or is misunderstood.
The original project included a number of pictures and quotes to help make the text come alive. Some of the paintings actually depict the area in question a few decades before or after, but they should be close enough to give you an idea of how things looked almost four centuries ago.
From that original project, as it grew in size, came a new book in the “In Art” series that focused on the story of the Pilgrims through those pictures.
Here, those projects have been combined. You could easily print just the story (every other page in this portion) and save ink. But I do hope you enjoy the pictures as well.
