This novel is the middle school version of A Kite Runner! Female protagonists but a heart breaking look at the country and the people’s plight. I have divided up the novel into four equal parts and have provided a quick "who, what, when, where" matching quiz assessment for readers. I like to do this when students are completing a self-directed novel study for me to ensure they are reading the piece and to see their basic understanding. This novel I have used for both my grade eight class and grade nine class, but can easily see it fit in with some grade ten readers as well. Great piece for students to understand what young people from other countries face, Others I have in my reading selection for this unit is Hare in the Elephant's Trunk, Now is the Time for Running, Rebels by Accident, In Darkness and Trash.
