The Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War ravaged that town and the surrounding area on July 1, 2, and 3 of 1863. A young civilian girl named Tillie Pierce got caught right in the middle of all the action on the battlefield and even assisted in caring for the wounded. She wrote a book about her experience which has been retold in Patricia Gauch’s book entitled Thunder at Gettysburg. This PowerPoint takes you into the home of Tillie Pierce and then out onto the battlefield location where she was during those fateful days. The author uses original photographs of these sites as well as rich text to tell Tillie’s story. Also included are photographs taken of the 150th reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. Finally, the author includes pictures of some battlefield hospitals and even takes you on a pictorial tour inside of one of these hospital buildings.
