This colorful and adorable PDF lesson is used to introduce elementary music students to the new rhythm pattern "ta-a." This lesson is constructed using the Kodaly method of music education by first introducing the "ta-a" concept with using two "ta's" (quarter notes) "tied" together and then eventually becoming the "ta-a" (half note). This lesson also reinforces the Solfege tone set Do-Re-Mi. Activities included in this lesson are a beat tapping chart, a rhythm icon tapping chart, an identifying/labeling the rhythm notation of the song activity, as well as reading the melodic notation from the staff in 3 different ways (one with raindrops as note heads and "tied ta's" for the new rhythm concept, another with real notation and 'tied ta's" for the new rhythm concept, and finally with real notation with the "ta-a" for the new rhythm concept). Also included is a fun game in which students have to sort weather related words and/or phrases into their appropriate matching rhythm categories.
