This is a project I had my students do very recently to help them understand the events that took place at Tiananmen Square in 1989. Students have to view the events as if they are a police officer issuing an arrest warrant to prosecute those who committed crimes against humanity. Along with the graphic organizer is a timeline, the articles from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and articles which have eye-witness testimony from the events that took place. I mixed an actual arrest warrant with information from my school, room number and other basic information to make it more fun for the students. The aim is for students to learn this lesson through their own inquiry.
