Tic-Tac-Tarea is a fun way to incorporate differentiation into Spanish homework. Students are given 9 possible activities and get to choose any 3 that complete a tic-tac-toe line. Some of the activities are more verbal, others are visual. Some are individual and some work in groups. Some allow students to push themselves if they feel they are already confident about the basic material. So it naturally allows students to differentiate according to skill level and learning style.
You could use this as a weekly homework strategy - assigned on Monday, due on Friday. You could also use it as a lesson plan for a substitute teacher day. Three activities can easily fill a class period and it requires minimal guidance or help from the substitute teacher.
I’ve included one Tic-Tac-Tarea that is specific to vocabulary and one that is specific to verb conjugation. In Spanish 1 it would be mostly for vocabulary. Once students are learning the various preterite groups or the imperfect or future or present perfect, the verb option becomes more useful.
