Nine question grid in the format of the game Tic Tac Toe. Each square has a math question related to Place Value. There are a total of 10 games and 10 answer keys. The Tic Tac Toe games are designed to be solved in the traditional format of player vs. player or as a way to reinforce cooperative learning skills as students work together to solve the problems. This activity is useful for review of place value skills and vocabulary for Second and Third Grade. It is best used as a quick pacer or transition activity. To Play: Project the game board so students can see the questions. Cooperative Option: Divide the class or a subgroup into two teams. One team is X and the other is O. Decide on a captain. Students work as a team to select the problem they want to answer on a given turn and to provide the answer to the selected problem. The team captain tells the teacher which question the team has chosen. The teacher reads the question or designates a student to read the question. Students work together to solve. Only the team captain may give the answer aloud to the teacher. If the correct answer is given the team is awarded an X or an O depending on which team they are on. If the incorrect answer is given, then the other team has a chance to answer the problem. Just as in traditional Tic Tac Toe a team wins when they answer correctly a set of problems going across, down, or diagonally. Traditional Option (2 players): Each player has a game board on which they write their own answers. Player O selects the square within the grid. Both players write an answer on their board. If Player O has the correct answer, both players mark their board with an O. If Player O has an incorrect answer, Player X may be awarded the square if his answer is correct. Repeat, allowing Player X to select the next square.
