Description
This fun, editable game is a perfect companion to the book Old Tracks, New Tricks by Jessica Petersen. Students will practice and review phonics and/or spelling skills with this tic-tac-toe game modeled after the tic-TRACK-toe game in the book!
You could play this game in small groups (divide into teams) or use as a partner game in a literacy center.
Students will play this game like a regular game of tic-tac-toe (using the track game pieces instead of X’s and O’s). HOWEVER, in order to place their game piece onto the game board, on their turn they must correctly do one of the following:
* Choose a card from the stack and read it correctly
* Choose a card from the stack, read it, and name a word that rhymes with it
* Spell a word correctly that the second player draws and reads for them
If the student answers correctly, they may place one of their game pieces anywhere on the game board that has not already been used.
The student(s) who get three in a row first win(s)!
Editable word cards are also included so you can practice/review any skill you’d like!

About the Book Old Tracks New Tricks: When three creative train tracks join an old wooden train set, the bossy engines blare orders, and the bored tracks snore on the floor. Can the three little tracks show the whole train set how to work together and invent new fun? Part fun, rhyming story, part activity idea book, Old Tracks, New Tricks shows kids how to create new ways to play with their favorite toys.
