For the last few minutes of class, reviewing and reflecting on the day's activities is a great way to reinforce key ideas and/or check for understanding. The Ticket Out is, well, their ticket out of class. It must be completed and handed in before they can leave.
I have used this ticket out for the last six years of my teaching career. It benefits myself and my students in multiple ways:
**Check for understanding of the material - do I need to reteach a concept tomorrow?
**Sentence completion - so often our students write in short hand and this provides them an opportunity to write a complete thought.
**Opportunity to share - sometimes the strangest things come out of a student's pencil when given the starter "I wonder..." so I usually direct them to wonder about something class-related. :)
Suitable for all grade levels and all subjects.
