Time capsules are so much fun! The kids get such a kick out of doing this project each year and it is a great learning opportunity as well. I think it really helps students to think about what they want to accomplish during their year in first grade.
In my own classroom I have been doing this project sometime during the first two weeks of school for the past four years. This file includes printable downloads to complete the project. Included are: a description of how I use the materials in my classroom, a school hopes and wishes page, an all about me page, a picture page, and signs to display your time capsules. Each download comes in two fonts: both ComicSansMS and D'Nealian!
Supplemental materials you will need to complete this project:
Toilet paper rolls-1 per student
Yarn or string
Pebbles-1 per student (from the dollar store, or from your yard!)
Materials for decorating capsules: confetti, pom poms, google eyes, stickers, foam shapes, beads, gems, etc.
Printables from this file
This project is a wonderful reminder for students about how far they have come throughout the year. We talk about our capsules a lot throughout the year and they are so excited to open them at the end of the school year.
