Time is internally subjective, so how can we help students better understand daily task requirements and better manage it?
Link TIME with physical SPACE with this handy system. Minutes are linked to the amount of space they take up when sweeping across an analog clock. To further differentiate, each slice of time corresponds to it's own individual color.
1 hour?=full circle
15 minutes?=1/4 of a circle
half hour?=1/2 of a circle
After introducing the concept with included paper clock, suggested applications include:
1. Use icons next to class schedule to clue students into time required for each activity.
2. Hold them up during testing as a visual reminder to budget time.
3. Have a student nervous about time or transitions? Put on a keyring for individual use.
4. Attach "5 minute" icon on bathroom pass, or check out or other to let students know time requirement associated.
ICONS: Hour, 30 minutes, 20 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute
STUDENT DESK REFERENCE: table format for individual student use.
